Update on the closed DSP issue – Minister has signed off the Notice

ICPA has been challenging the abuse of the DSP regulations by medical aids for a number of years and we are finally making some headway. In 2016 we won an appeal to have closed DSPs and punitive co-pays declared an undesirable business practice. After many delays we have finally got word that the Minister of Health has signed off his concurrence and that the declaratory order will be published for comment by Gazette within the next 2 weeks.

We will have one shot at getting closed DSPs and penalty co-pays declared an undesirable business practice and we need the support of all of our members.

ICPA will begin the process of lobbying all the relevant healthcare associations and statutory bodies. We will submit a comprehensive document as comment on behalf of our members and their patients which will be shared with all ICPA members. The Board of Directors are meeting this week to formulate the plan of action regarding the comment on the declaratory order and a media response. We need our members to rally their patients support and to submit comment as well. All comment must be focussed on the patient and how closed DSPs and penalty co-pays have negatively impacted their healthcare. More information will be made available shortly.
