Dear ICPA members

ICPA hosted a very successful conference over the last weekend. A huge thank you to the wonderful support from our members, speakers and sponsors. Thanks must also go to XL-Millennium, our conference conveners for the intense planning, organising and execution. The ICPA Board, with support from Tracey and Denise at the office ensured that the conference went off as planned. ICPA is indeed grateful to all of the speakers for their participation which meant dedicating time to prepare for their presentations, travel and spend of their valuable personal time to enlighten all of us with their knowledge and wisdom.  We trust that our delegates enjoyed and benefited from the wide range of topics that were discussed. The plenary format of the conference was clearly a wise choice as evidenced by the good measure of interactivity between the speakers and the delegates. Unfortunately, due to time constraints not all of the questions could be addressed. Should you still have any burning questions that you would like answered please email them to the ICPA office and we will endeavour to get the relevant speakers to respond.

The AGM was convened and a new ICPA Board was elected. Mogologolo Phasha, having served his prescribed term as Chair, stepped down from the Chairmanship but remains a Board member. His vast experience will ensure stability and continuity in the organisation. Sham Moodley and Wim Grobbelaar both resigned as Board members. Sham made himself available for re-election. Due to personal circumstances Wim is no longer available to serve on the Board. ICPA is certainly poorer for this loss, but we do appreciate his immense contribution to Independent Pharmacy over the years, and he will no doubt be available to guide and advise when called on, as he remains a loyal member of the IP family. ICPA wishes Wim well on his onward journey.

There were five nominations to the Board and elections were held under the vigilant eye of our ‘legal eagle’ Lizelle le Grange.

The new ICPA Board is constituted of the following members:

Congratulations to Sham and Tsepo on their election to serve on the Board. Sham’s experience and pragmatism will make sure that we remain balanced and focused. Tsepo brings in young blood to the organisation. His enthusiasm, vigour, high energy levels and fresh ideas will certainly add flavour to ICPA going forward. ICPA is fortunate to have a Board that is informed, dedicated, hardworking and committed to the cause of Independent Pharmacy. Our members can be assured that this Board will work tirelessly to pursue the objectives of ICPA for the benefit of Independent Pharmacy.

There are huge challenges and opportunities facing community pharmacy as the country forges ahead with NHI to achieve Universal Health Coverage in South Africa. The message from the NDoH was loud and clear, NHI will radically change the delivery of healthcare in South Africa. ICPA endorses the objectives and principals of the NHI and is working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that community pharmacy takes it rightful place in the new dispensation.
